Very awaited in World Superbikes, Max Biaggi won the opening round. After a first season to adapt to the Honda CBR, James Toseland started his title quest. The early seaon was perfect but later Noriyuki Haga began to feed the gap and finished the championship only 2 points behind his contender. Troy Bayliss was too unconsistant to hope keeping his crown.
In World Supersport, Kenan Sofuoglu widely dominated the championship and took 9 of the 13 rounds. He offered a 6th consecutive title to the Dutch team Ten Kate. At the end of the season, Sébastien Charpentier announced his retirement.
