Standard bikes
The Grand Prix premier class hadn't known a so deep change for a long time. The arriving 4-stroke technology achieved the professionalization of the championship. Honda and Yamaha had clearly announced their ambition of clinching the first MotoGP title with the RC211V and M1 machines. Eventually, Valentino Rossi and Honda took the pot. The Suzuki factory, first hesitating, engaged the GSV-R from the season start, like Aprilia, with a bike developed by régis Laconi. The 2-stroke riders were relegated on a secondary level, even if Olivier Jacque was about to win the race at Sachsenring. In the 125 cc class, Arnaud Vincent became the first Frenchman to win the title. MotoGP class
