After off-road racing debut, James Toseland switched to road racing in 1992. His Honda CB 500 Cup win and his third place in British Supersport championship were a springboard for his international career. He went on learning in the World Supersport championship for the two following seasons. He came back to the UK in 2000 to take part in the British Superbike championship and in the World Superbike one in 2001, beside Neil Hodgson in the GSE Ducati team. James Toseland quickly improved : he earnt his first podimum in Assen in 2002 and his first win in 2003 at Oschersleben. Recruited by the Ducati factory squad, he clinched the title ahead f his team-mate Régis Laconi. Less competitive in 2005, he lost his title and came back in Honda camp in the Ten Kate team in 2006. For his first season on the CBR 1000 RR, he finished second. In 2007, he earnt he second title, only two points ahead of Noriyuki Haga. That was the best way to close his WSBK period before joining MotoGP in the Tech 3 Yamaha team in 2008.
