Tom Sykes started his professional career in British Supersports in 2003. Privateer rider, he improved season after season and finished as runner-up behind Cal Crutchlow in 2006. Paul Bird recruited him in 2007 to compete in the Superbike class alongside the experienced Shane Byrne. 6th overall for his rookie season, he joined the Suzuki team. Tom Sykes regularly battled at the front claiming 3 wins and a 4th final place. Wildcard for the World Superbikes British rounds, he impressed by being in a position to win a race at Brands Hatch and earning a podium at Donington. In 2009, for his first season at world level, Tom Sykes lived a tough season in the official Yamaha squad, while his team-mate Ben Spies was battling for the title. In 2010, he found back Paul Bird at Kawasaki. Race after race, Tom Sykes showed himself more and more competitive, claiming two wins in British Superbikes and one pole in World Superbikes. Thanks to these results, he convinced the manufacturer to keep him to ride the new ZX-10R alongside Joan Lascorz and Chris Vermeulen. In Germany, under the rain, the British rider offered Kawasaki its first win until 2006.
