Nephew of Angel Nieto (13 times world champion, 90 wins), Fonsi Nieto was born in an environment dedicated to motorcycle racing. He started racing very early with minibikes and quickly had good results. He clinched three national titles before joining the team Aspar Martinez in 2001. Very consistant, he finished twice 3rd at the end of the season. He had his best season in 2002 winning four races and finishing 2nd overall behind Marco Melandri. The 2003 and 2004 seasons were more difficult. Unemployed in Grand Prix for 2005, he contested the World Superbike championship aboard a Ducati in the Caracchi team. In spite of disappointing results, the Kawasaki factory recruited him to develop its new machine, alongside Regis Laconi and Chris Walker. In 2007, he earnt a podium for the final round at Magny-Cours. In 2008, he will ride an official Suzuki GSX-R in the Alstare team.
