Garry McCoy was a good 125 World Grand Prix rider in the 1990's, claiming two race wins in five seasons. After an average experience on 500 bicylinder Honda, his career took a new turn in 1999 when Peter Clifford called him to replace Simon Crafar at the Czech GP. Aboard the YZR Yamaha, Garry McCoy showed all his talents. 2000's opening round winner, he introduced the 16,5" tyre in the premier class, quickly imitated by several other top riders. Bothered by injuries, the following seasons were less succesful : in 2002 with an underpowered 2-stroke bike or in 2003 facing the many setup problems of the Kawasaki. Then he decided to contend the World Superbike championship. 6th on a Ducati for his first season, Garry McCoy lived another difficult season with Carl Fogarty's team. In 2006, the Australian rider took part in Supermoto series and Le Mans 24 Hour race. Test rider for Ilmor in MotoGP, he competed in the last two rounds and scored first points in a 800 cc with the Swiss team. After another year away from racing and a season 2008 ruined due to a bad injury, Garry McCoy claimed two World Supersport podium finishes with the 675 Triumph in 2009.
