After his Superbike and Supersport domestic crowns, Gregorio Lavilla succesively contended 250 cc World Grand Prix, Thunderbike Trophy and German Superbike series. This last experience allowed him to secure a good race seat in World Superbikes for 1998. 12th overall and best privateer, Gregorio Lavilla was recruited by Kawasaki the following season. He obtained several top-3 finishes during the three seasons spent with the team. In 2002, he joined Suzuki and recorded his best ranking in 2003 (5th), as the manufacturer decided to withdraw. Test rider for the MotoGP team, Gregorio Lavilla took part in four races in 2004. He also replaced Yukio Kagayama for a single British Superbike round. He preferred signing with the GSE team, supplied by Ducati, and clinched the title in 2005. In 2006 and 2007, he couldn't block Ryuichi Kiyonari despite many race wins (7). For his come back to World Superbikes in 2008, Gregorio Lavilla recorded a top-4 finish as best result, at Donington, and claimed a 12th final position.
