After a difficult year 2001 in 125 cc World Grand Prix, Lorenzo Lanzi didn't compete in 2002. For his comeback the following season, he clinched the Italian Superstock title and finished as runner-up at the European level. Recruited by Ducati, the Italian rider firstly represented the manufacturer in the World Supersport series (5th in 2004). He joined the satellite team Caracchi in 2005 and got revealed in World Superbikes. Called to fill in for Régis Laconi, injured, during the season, he secured one pole position and two wins. Factory rider in 2006 and 2007, he unfortunately didn't record the expected results and contended again the championship on a satellite Ducati in 2008. Taking advantage of the last lap crash between Carlos Checa and Max Neukirchner, he took one more victory at Valencia. He only took part in some races in 2009 due to a lack of budget and his 2010 campaign was transparent.
