After two domestic and one European titles (1994), Régis Laconi had two difficult first seasons in Grand Prix. In 1997, with a Tecmas V2 Honda, he made good performances and showed courage : a crash in Austria forced him to miss several rounds. The following season, Yamaha provided him a ride in Peter Clifford's Red Bull WCM team. A victory at Valencia in 1999 was the high point of this collaboration. In 2001, Aprilia recruited Régis Laconi for World Superbike series. He earned his maiden victory in the final round of the season. He came back to MotoGP to develop the new 4-stroke RS3. Despite his hard work, Régis Laconi was replaced by Colin Edwards and Noriyuki Haga for the '2003 championship. He joined the NCR Ducati squad in World Superbikes. With his usual "fighting spirit", he secured a ride in the Ducati factory team for 2004. Too hotheaded and unlucky for the first races, he missed the crown by 9 points behind his team-mate James Toseland. Less competitive in 2005, he joined the Kawasaki PSG-1 team from 2006 with the mission of improving the ZX-10R machine. After a disastrous season 2008, he’ll be back on a Ducati in 2009.
