With two national title and an european one, Régis Laconi had a thundering career start. Unfortunately, he didn't entered the 250 cc world championship in good conditions and finished 27th and 15th for his two first seasons. In 1997, he joined the Tecmas team in the 500 cc class with a Honda V2 machine. He shown great qualities and Yamaha recruited him for the '1998 season. Injured during the winter tests, he missed the two first races but scored at each race for the remainder of the season. In 1999, he had more irregular results but finished first at Valencia and third at Philip Island. The next season was disappointing even if he scored at each race and Régis Laconi had to find a ride in World Superbike. With Aprilia in won the final round at Imola and came back in MotoGP to develop the new 4-stroke RS3. Despite many efforts, he was replaced by Colin Edwards and Noriyuki Haga for the '2003 championship. He joined the NCR Ducati squad in World Superbike. With his usual "fighting spirit", he earnt a ride in the Ducati factory team for 2004. Too hotheaded and unlucky for the first races, he lost the title by 9 points behind his team-mate James Toseland. Less competitive in 2005, he joined the Kawasaki PSG-1 team to improve the ZX-10R machine. That's what Régis Laconi did in 2007, but the best remains to come in 2008...
