After his debut on moped, Olivier Jacque entered the very new French team in 1994. Associated with Régis Laconi, he finished the 250 cc European championship in 2nd position, behind his team-mate. Equipped with a non-factory bike for his first Grand Prix season, Olivier Jacque sowed discord among the factory riders. At the end of the 1995 season he received the “Rookie of the year” trophy. Factory rider since 1996, Olivier Jacque won his first victories but was handicapped by a foot fracture which was long to be consolidated. In 2000, as he was racing the second season for Yamaha, Olivier Jacque took the 250 cc class world champion title. His switch to the 500 cc class the next season was disturbed by a new injury. In 2002, with his 2-stroke YZR its 2-stroke YZR outdated by the new 4-stroke machines. On the brink of Winning the German GP, Alex Barros involved him in his crash. After a terse 2003 season, he took part in only two races for Moriwaki in 2004 (11th at Motegi). In 2005, Kawasaki gave him a new chance by allowing him to relaced Alex Hofmann, when he was injured. He finished 2nd in China (the best performance ever of the manufacturer since its return). Olivier Jacque took part in the development of the 800 cc Ninja in 2006 and became permanent rider in 2007.
