Born in a family passionate about motorbikes, Nicky Hayden, like his brothers Roger Lee and Tommy, earnt his spurs in dirt track, the American sliding school. After his domestic Superbike title in 2002, Nicky Hayden was propelled to the MotoGP with the official Honda squad, first reigning champion of the new 4-stroke era. Best rookie in 2003, Nicky Hayden marked time in 2004, unable to turn into results the hopes put on him by the biggest manufacturer in the world. Two podiums, a 8th final place, worse-placed Honda rider, this summarizes this bad season. After a shy start in 2005, his first win at Laguna Seca, for the return of MotoGP to the United States since 1994, was a trigger point for Nicky Hayden. Then, he reached six timesthe podium in the last ten races and finished the season in 3rd position. Considered as a firm pretender, he clinched the title in 2006 thanks to an exemplary regularity : ten podiums, among which two victories, at Assen and Laguna Seca. Since the regulation change in 2007, he has difficulties to find an efficient riding style. Surpassed by his team-mate Dani Pedrosa in the HRC team, Nicky Hayden joined Ducati in 2009. For his first season in the transalpine squad, he had the same difficulties as his predecessor Marco Melandri. In 2010, thanks to the "big-bang" engine of the Desmosedici, the US rider returned to podium in Japan, added to five 4th places.
