Son of the famous Grand Prix racer Ron Haslam, Leon is strongly experiencd for his age. After motocross debuts, he earned the 1998's MCN Young Rider of the Year award. From 1999 to 2002, he competed in the 125, 250 and 500 cc Grand Prix classes, without getting convincing results due to an under competitive equipment. In 2003, Leon Haslam joined the British team Renegade which allowed him to contend the domestic Superbike championship and some World Superbike rounds. He recorded his first successes and signed for a first full season in World Superbikes. He regularly scored points and finished 8th, with a podium to his credit. Back in the UK, he took part again between 2005 and 2008 in the British Superbike series in Ducati then Honda colours. Front-runner, he failed in the title chase. Recruited by Johan Stigefelt for the 2009 season, he was the best Honda rider in the early season. His good results allowed him to secure an official Suzuki ride for 2010. Battling for the title in the first part of the championship, he was afterwards outdistanced by Max Biaggi and his Aprilia. BMW's factory rider in 2011, Leon Haslam has continued the development of the German with the objective of winning in 2012.
