Son of a former motocross champion,Toni Elias made his racing debut at the age of nine and successively passed the stages : pocket bike, 50 cc and 125 cc (3rd in the 1999 Spanish championship). Singled out by Alberto Puig during his first complete Grand Prix season (20th), he joined the Telefonica Junior Team in 2001, alongside Dani Pedrosa. Toni Elias earned his two first wins and finished in 3rd position. However, he decided to contend in the 250 cc class for Aprilia, without clinching the 125 cc world title. Toni Elias has been competitive during the two following seasons : 4th in 2002, 3rd in 2003 and six wins overall. In 2004, he came back to Honda and had a good season (4th and one win) before reaching MotoGP. In spite of first conclusive tests on the Yamaha M1 bike, his season with the Tech 3 team was disappointing. Recruited by Fausto Gresini in 2006, Toni Elias, singular-styled rider, was irregular and got injured in Assen. He came back with courage and kept his place for 2007 thanks to his victory in Portugal. He got injured again at 2007 Dutch TT and recorded no convincing result. Pramac Ducati's rider in 2008 and Gresini Honda's one in 2009, Toni Elias claimed only three podiums and turned towards Moto2 in 2010. With the Gresini team, equipped with a Moriwaki chassis, Toni Elias the first ever championship and clinched his first world title. En 2011, he's back in MotoGP with Lucio Cecchinello's team.
