Alex de Angelis made his Grand Prix debuts with Honda in the 125 cc class. Then he went on improving with Aprilia. 125 cc vice-champion in 2003 and two-times 3rd in the 250 cc world championship (2006 and 2007), the rider from San-Marino only won one race in eight seasons at world level. For 2008, Fausto Gresini trusted him to contend the MotoGP world championship alongside the experienced Shinya Nakano.
