Shane Byrne was noticed out when he was a road tester for Fast Bikes magazine. He made his racing debut in the British Superbike championship in 1999 aboard a Kawasaki machinery. 8th in the standings and best privateer in 2001, he joined the Renegade Ducati team the season after. He earned his first successes and finished 4the overall. In 2003, he easily claimed the title with 12 wins. After two difficult seasons in MotoGP, due to injuries and uncompetitive equipement, Shane Byrne came back to British Superbikes with Suzuki. He quickly re-fought at the front and took one win. In 2007, he met again his former team manager Paul Bird in the privateer Stobart Honda team. In 2008, back with Ducati, he clinched his second domestic title and secured a World Superbike ride. After two disappointing seasons (only one podium in 2009), "Shakey" prefered signing in British Superbikes with HM Plant Honda, the reigning champion team, and aiming at a third domestic crown in 2011.
