After debuts in minibikes and Aprilia Cup, Alvaro Bautista, from 1999, has been part of the detection program initiated in Spain by Alberto Puig with the support of MoviStar. As Dani Pedrosa and Toni Elias was making their debuts in the world championship, Alvaro Bautista was earning his spurs in the top level Spanish championship. Crowned in 2003 in the 125 cc class, he logically contended the world series since 2004. After two campaigns without any convincing result, he dominated the 2006 season and clinched the title three rounds before its term. Still in Aspar Martinez's team, Alvaro Bautista quickly adapted to the 250 cc class. However he critically lacked regularity to become champion between 2007 and 2009. For his switch to the premier-class, Alvaro Bautista chose the Suzuki option. Due to a lack of budget, the manufacturer meet difficulties to develop its GSV-R. In 2011, Alvaro Bautista is the single Suzuki's rider in MotoGP.
