Alex Barros made his Grand Prix debut in 1986 in the former 80 cc class. He took part in the 125 cc and 250 cc world championships until 1990. Then he joined the Cagiva factory team in the 500 cc class. He learnt much during these three Italian seasons, especially as Eddie Lawson's team-mate in 1991 and 1992. In 1993, Suzuki recruited him beside Kevin Schwantz. His victory at Jarama, the last round of the season, placed him among the potential champions. Unfortunately, he crucially lacked regularity in 1994 and didn't fulfill his team's expectations. Between 1995 and 2002, he's ridden for Honda satellite teams. First with Erv Kanemoto, then with Fausto Gresini in 1997. Missing funds, he had to race with a V2, cheaper but less powerful. He joined Sito Pons' team in 1999 and gave his carrer a new breathe. Alex Barros earnt five victories . In 2003, he accepted a factory ride proposal from Yamaha to replace Max Biaggi as team leader. This season was catastrophic. After a tough legal battle, he joined the HRC squad in 2004 for another bad season. In 2005, he came back in Sito Pons' team and found the necessary serenity to win again (1st at Portuguese GP under the rain). In 2006, he switched to World Superbikes and had a good season with six podiums, among which one victory. Very wanted, he joined Luis d'Antin team, equipped with a new Ducati GP7. That was a good choice because he finsished third at the Italian GP. Alex Barros still has to announce his projects for the next season.
