News - 2010 WSBK French round : D-10
09/23/2010

In 2010, the French World Superbike round regained its status of final, lost for two years at the advantage of the Portmao circuit. The Superbike world title will be perhaps taken at Imola this week end : Max Biaggi (Aprilia) has a 58 point-lead on Leon Haslam (Suzuki). One will have to keep an eye upon the latter's team-mate in the Alstare squad, Sylvain Guintoli. The French rider aims at climbing at least one podium for the last two rounds and will attempt to keep his 8th place even to move ahead of James Toseland in the championship standings.

As last year, the fight for the World Supersport title should last until the final round. Since Joan Lascorz got injured at Silverstone, Kenan Sofuoglu and Eugene Laverty, both aboard Hondas, are the only ones to be in a position to pretend to the final win.
The news came as a bombshell two weeks ago : there will be no Ducati factory team in the 2011 World Superbike championship. Represented since the creation of the series in 1988, the firm from Bologna was until now a mainstay of World Superbikes with an impressive wins list : 13 "rider" titles (Raymond Roche, Doug Polen, Carl Fogarty, Troy Corser, Troy Bayliss, Neil Hodgson and James Toseland) and 16 "manufacturer" titles in 23 campaigns.

The season 2011 is approaching with the announcement of the arrival of new riders in the World Superbike title chase : Marco Melandri will join the official Yamaha team alongside Eugene Laverty ; Joan Lascorz will stay with Kawasaki but in the upper class. Jonathan Rea has renewed his contract with Honda Ten Kate. The future of the current Ducati factory riders, Noriyuki Haga et Michel Fabrizio, isn't sealed yet. At BMW, Troy Corser will contend a third season but nothing is less certain for his team-mate Ruben Xaus.
