News - 2009 WSBK French round : D-10
09/24/2009

The year 2009 will remain the rookies' one. In Superbike, Ben Spies, recruited by Yamaha to discover the world level, is about to clinch the title and to offer the tuning fork brand his first one in the category. With 9 poles (among which 7 in a row in the early season) and 12 wins out of 11 rounds, the texan rider, three-times reigning AMA Superbike champion, never showed himself impressed by the tracks he was all discovering, or almost (last year, he had contended the British Grand Prix aboard a Suzuki). On the contrary, his contenders have had to make do with the "Texas terror" ; particularly Noriyuki Haga.
The Japanese, Troy Bayliss's successor in the Ducati squad, thought that this campaign could be the right one. With the misadventures of Ben Spies (crashes, out of gas...), he was leading the championship since the first round, even after his big crash at Donington, that fortunately happened just before the summer break. Since the German round, that is the rookie who took the championship lead. Will Nitro Nori become the "Superbike's Randy Mamola" ? For the record, he previously finished as runner-up in 2000 and 2007 and 3rd in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2008 !

In Supersport, Andrew Pitt and Kenan Sofuoglu with their Ten Kate Honda were the logical favourites of the series. But Cal Crutchlow and Eugene Laverty dominated the championship, with an advantage to the first named. It didn't take long to the 2006 British Supersport champion to win on his official Yamaha. Eugene Laverty is the second revelation of the season. Already substitute with Yamaha last year, he won with his privateer Honda in three occasions. Joan Lascorz and his Kawasaki, despite encouraging results (5 podiums), are now out of the battle for the title.

On the art side, my summer has been very busy. I notably worked on the newcomers. To discover from next October 15.
