Influences - Brittany
02/26/2009

In its song "La découverte et l'ignorance (discovery or ignorance)", the Tri Yan band talks about the existence of Brittany as a nation : it can only exist through the persons who want to make it live.

I spent the twenty-five first years of my life in this region but I must admit that it is rather late that I became conscious of my attachment.

At first, that is cycling which made me came closer to Brittany. First in the surroundings of my home that I began to ride during my training sessions, and that I didn't really know. I even discovered the smallest tracks ("ribin" in Breton) with my mountain bike. Then, more widely in function of the races locations. Thanks to the high number of races scheduled in Brittany, the trips were often shorts but we had sometimes to cross the département.

When I stopped competing, Brittany was one of my first themes for artistic work. It's such a wide and various subject : landscapes, architecture, wildlife...

At that time, my conscience of Brittany grew. All the more since I had to leave it for professional reasons. In 2001, I started to learn the Breton language. The problem is that when I tried to talk with my grandparents, they didn't understand me ! There are many variants in vocabulary and my accent was awful. Well, I still could say to my grandfather that the weather was good or tell my grandmother that her pancakes were delicious.
