News - Step by step : Sylvain Guintoli 2007 06/14/2007
End of last April, I’m reaching the end of my program for the
French Grand Prix. I’m not late, so I have decided to change the
technique a little. Still using watercolour, I’m going to try to
make a drawing similar to a comic. The model: Sylvain Guintoli and his
Tech 3 Yamaha M1.
At the beginning, the process does not vary from other watercolours.
Layout, drawing gum and colouring. For the Dunlop sponsored Yamaha, the
colours are very few : yellow and black by a large majority. It changes
at this step : the black, usually more intense, is used only for the
lighter dark parts of the careenage and the tires.
Once the drawing gum is withdrawn, the clear parts appear. For a
traditional watercolour, the no-hidden parts already get their final
tint. There, it will be the role of India ink.
At this level, I only added the Dunlop red “D” and the blue and red of the Tech 3 logo.
Unlike my first watercolours where the layout was inked in from the
beginning, I ink in the layout and accentuate the darkest parts only
when the colouring is fixed up. Now, only miss any the rider signature,
but it is another story...
